why each one earned its place

the four ingredients doing the heaviest lifting, and why each one earned its place.
green-lipped mussel.
green-lipped mussel is a shellfish that grows in the sea around new zealand. instead of pulling out one molecule and binning the rest, we use the whole dried mussel, so its natural mix of marine nutrients - including its own omega-3 fats - arrives together, the way it grew. it's here to support normal joint function through all the bends, stretches and big jumps of an ordinary dog day.

we won't pad this page with borrowed authority, so here's what we can show you today: every batch of chews is tested to verify the green-lipped mussel content matches the label before it goes near a pouch. when our advisers have published work they're happy to put their names to, it will be listed here - author, year, journal, link - and the update will be dated.
marine omega-3 (epa + dha).
epa and dha are the two omega-3 fats that matter most for dogs, and they come from the sea - dogs can't make enough of them on their own, so they have to arrive in the bowl. in the chew they help maintain a shiny coat and healthy skin from the inside, which is where a coat is built.

the honest position: we're new, and this list will be built carefully rather than quickly. for now, the proof we can offer is our own testing - every batch is checked so the epa and dha printed on the label is the epa and dha in the chew. vetted published reading will be added here once it's been signed off.
heat-stable probiotic.
most probiotics are delicate - ordinary baking finishes them off long before they reach a dog. ours is a bacillus, which curls up inside a tough natural casing called a spore and waits. cold-pressing is gentle enough for it to survive the trip, and once it reaches the tummy it gets to work supporting normal digestion - with the mos prebiotic travelling alongside as its packed lunch.

counting live bacteria is where testing earns its keep, because a label can promise a number the chew no longer contains. our per-batch testing verifies the live count after pressing, not before - so the count on the label is the count in the chew you actually feed.
made in the uk
how it's made.
most chews are baked or extruded, which means serious heat - and serious heat is the end of a live probiotic, and hard on delicate ingredients generally. cold-pressing shapes the chew at gentle, low temperatures instead, so the bacillus arrives alive and the fragile things stay the way we put them in. it's slower to make. we think it's the right trade.
every chew is made here in the uk. that keeps the journey from press to letterbox short, and it means the people who make it are people we can go and stand next to while they do.
before any batch ships, it's tested: the working ingredients are verified against the label, and the batch is screened for the things you'd hope someone was checking, like pathogens and heavy metals. if a batch doesn't pass, it doesn't ship.
the ones we said no to
what we left out. and why.
an ingredient list is also a list of decisions. here are the ones we said no to.
chondroitin.
chondroitin usually sits next to glucosamine on a label, so leaving it out was not a casual call. the issue is dose: at the amount that would honestly fit in a daily chew alongside everything else, we weren't convinced it would pull its weight. we gave the space to green-lipped mussel instead.
msm.
msm has a big reputation and a modest evidence base in dogs. we looked, we asked, and we couldn't find enough to justify taking space from ingredients we're surer of. if that picture changes, the formula can change too - and it would be logged in the mm1 changelog first.
curcumin.
curcumin is interesting, but famously hard to absorb - on its own, most of it passes straight through. the enhanced forms that absorb better bring their own questions of dose and safety margins in dogs. we'd rather leave it out than include a token amount for the ingredient list.
added vitamin d.
if your dog eats a complete dog food, their vitamin d is already taken care of - that's what 'complete' on the bag means. adding more on top risks over-supply, because vitamin d builds up in the body rather than washing out. so we left it out on purpose.
hyaluronic acid.
the evidence in dogs is thin at the amounts a chew can carry, so it did not earn its place.
added vitamin c.
dogs make their own vitamin c. adding more is label decoration, and we do not do label decoration.
uc-ii collagen.
the canine evidence did not justify the space in this chew. it is planned for a separate booster later, where it can be dosed properly.

the mm1 changelog.
mm1 is named after mabel and maggie. if the formula ever changes - doses, sources, anything - it gets dated and logged here before it reaches your pouch.
